In his first year in the Phillies' organization, Enyel De Los Santos will be in two All-Star games.
We already knew the Lehigh Valley righty would start the Triple A All-Star Game on July 11. And on Friday, Major League Baseball announced he'll also be part of Team World in the All-Star Futures Game on July 15 at Nationals Park. He will be the Phillies' only representative.
The Phillies acquired De Los Santos from the Padres in December in exchange for Freddy Galvis. The Dominican Republic native has exceeded expectations in his first season in the organization, posting a 9-3 record and International League-best 1.89 ERA in 16 starts with the IronPigs. This is his first season at the Triple A level.
Lefty Cole Irvin, who has an 8-3 record and 2.76 ERA this season, will also represent Lehigh Valley in the AAA All-Star Game. Phillies manager Gabe Kapler is aware of Irvin and De Los Santos' success, and thinks they could be a part of the Phillies' rotation down the road (see story).
“I think it's exciting how De Los Santos and Irvin are performing at the minor-league level, as well, and given what this rotation might look like given everybody's health and experience level, six months, nine months, a year from now,” Kapler said. “It's all kind of fascinating.”
