Harang scratched from Wednesday's start as health precaution

CLEARWATER, Fla. – New Phillie Aaron Harang will not make his scheduled start Wednesday against the Yankees in Tampa.

Kevin Slowey, another first-year Phillie, is now listed as the club’s starter.

In a conversation with reporters Tuesday morning, Harang mentioned that he recently visited a chiropractor, but said that was routine for him in spring training. He said he was not starting Wednesday because he needed more time to smooth out his mechanics in the bullpen.

Pitching coach Bob McClure indicated that health was a reason for holding Harang back.

“We’re just making sure everything is OK from a health standpoint,” McClure said. “Guys have twinges here and there –- let’s make sure.”

Harang said he would start Monday in Sarasota against the Orioles.

In a related matter, Jerome Williams was supposed to start against the Yankees on Tuesday, but David Buchanan was on the mound when the game started. There was no immediate explanation for the change.
