ATLANTA -- The Phillies snapped their 11-game road losing streak with a Cole Hamels-led, 5-1, victory over the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field on Monday night.
The win was Charlie Manuel’s 1,000th as a big-league manager.
The Phillies have won just five of 22 games after the All-Star break.
The Braves, rolling toward the NL East title, have lost just four times in their last 21 games.
Starting pitching report
Hamels came within one out of his first shutout of the season. Chris Johnson doubled home Justin Upton with two outs in the ninth to get the Braves on the board. Johnson’s double came on Hamels’ 120th pitch.
In all, Hamels allowed six hits over nine innings. He walked just one and struck out nine. He threw a season-high 123 pitches in his first complete game of the season.
Hamels had four 1-2-3 innings.
Despite a 5-13 record, Hamels has pitched very well of late. Since the start of July, he has a 1.98 ERA in eight starts.
Braves’ right-hander Julio Teheran allowed just a run through five innings before giving up a three-run homer to Cody Asche in the sixth. In all, Teheran allowed six hits and four runs over five inning,
At the plate
Hamels tripled and scored the Phillies’ first run on a single by Jimmy Rollins in the third inning.
Asche’s second big-league homer gave the Phils a 4-0 lead. The rookie third baseman singled in the ninth, stole second and scored his second run of the game on a hit by Carlos Ruiz.
Brian McCann had a leadoff double in the second, but died on third as Hamels got two strikeouts to end the inning.

Health check
Roy Halladay and Jonathan Pettibone are set to make minor-league rehab starts. Ryan Howard is recovering from knee surgery, but he might not play again this season (see story).
