Larry Bowa and Juan Samuel are returning to the Phillies.

Bowa was a candidate for the Marlins' managerial vacancy, while Samuel entered the offseason with goals to manage, but it was announced Tuesday that both agreed to contracts with the Phillies for the 2016 season.

Bowa will remain bench coach, while Samuel will begin coaching third base after serving the Phillies as first base coach the past three seasons.

Bowa, who has been Phillies bench coach since 2014, interviewed twice with Miami the last month for its manager job, a baseball source told CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury. Bowa played 12 seasons for the Phillies, coached them from 1989-96 and managed the club from 2001-04.

Samuel was interviewed by the Phillies for their 2016 manager job, which eventually went to Pete Mackanin. Samuel was an interim manager with the Orioles in 2010 and has been on the Phillies' staff since 2011.

He hopes to one day manage.

“I would like to see what things open up out there and see if I get a chance,” he said back in September. “My ultimate goal is not to finish my career coaching first base."

Hitting coach Steve Henderson and pitching coach Bob McClure have already agreed to 2016 contracts with the Phillies. Also, last Wednesday, the Phillies hired Rick Kranitz as bullpen coach and John McLaren as catching coach.
