Pettibone pitches 5 innings in rehab start

In his first rehab start with Double A Reading, Jonathan Pettibone showed some signs of being on the right track.

Pettibone lasted five innings -- his limit for the game -- against the Binghamton Mets. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four. He didn't factor into a decision.

Pettibone started strong by fanning two batters in a scoreless first inning. However, he allowed two runners to score in the second inning and one more in the fifth, which cost Reading the lead.

The 23-year-old right-hander was sent to the disabled list on Aug. 2 with a right shoulder strain. He was 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA this season with the Phillies before sustaining the injury.
