One day after jamming his left knee into the outfield wall attempting to make a catch, Phillies center fielder Brandon Marsh was out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's night game against Toronto.
The Phillies evaluated Marsh until about 2½ hours before game time before deciding he would not start. Matt Vierling started in center field against Toronto right-hander Kevin Gausman. Nick Maton was in right field in place of Nick Castellanos, who remains out with an oblique strain.
Manager Rob Thomson said Marsh was available off the bench Wednesday night. The Phillies will face Atlanta lefty Max Fried on Thursday night so the lefty-hitting Marsh might not start the game. He projects to start Friday night against Atlanta right-hander Jake Odorizzi.
