Howie Kendrick, who spent a brief portion of his 15-year big-league career with the Phillies, is back with the organization as a special assistant to general manager Sam Fuld, the team announced Tuesday.
Kendrick spent part of the 2017 season with the Phillies before being traded to the Washington Nationals and helping that club win the World Series in 2019. Kendrick hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in 12 runs in that postseason. He was named MVP of the NLCS.
A former infielder/outfielder, Kendrick hit .294 and stroked 1,747 hits in his career, most of which was spent with the Los Angeles Angels.

In addition to Kendrick, the Phillies announced several other hirings:
• Brian Kaplan is the new major-league assistant pitching coach and director of pitching development. He had previously been vice president and co-founder of Cressey Sports Performance in Jupiter, Fla.
• Jason Camilli is the new major-league assistant hitting coach. He has worked in player development with Cincinnati and Arizona.
• Morgan Gregory is the club's new director of strength and conditioning and nutrition. He spent the last nine seasons working in the Cincinnati organization.

• Furey Leva, a Temple grad who has worked in the Phillies' minor-league system, moves up to become assistant strength and conditioning coach.
• Christian Burmudez, formerly the athletic trainer with Triple A Lehigh Valley, moves up to become medical operations liaison.
