Phillies sign journeyman OF Cedric Hunter to minors deal

The Phillies on Monday signed 27-year-old outfielder Cedric Hunter to a minor-league deal with an invitation to spring training.

This is a pure depth signing. Hunter has had only one cup of coffee in the majors since being drafted by the Padres in the third round in 2006, going 1 for 4 in 2011.

He's a career minor-leaguer with 4,727 plate appearances in the minors. This past season, playing for Gwinnett, the Braves' Triple A affiliate, Hunter hit .283/.331/.420 with 12 home runs and 77 RBIs.

Hunter has spent time in the farm systems of the Padres, Cardinals, Indians and Braves.
