The Astros apology press conference was a total disaster

The Houston Astros held a press conference today down at their spring training facility in Florida and it went about as poorly as you could have imagined.

From team owner Jim Crane stating that the sign stealing "didn't impact the game" -- which he later said he didn't actually say! -- to absolutely hollow-feeling apologies from Astros players, the press conference came off as a colossal failure and example of how NOT to handle an attempted apology.

Crane's immediate walk-back was the most "is this guy serious!?" moment from the day:

Alex Bregman's delivery came across incredibly robotic:

My mind immediately went to: how would the Philadelphia sports fan base react to such an atrocity of a press conference if it came from one of our organizations? Philly fans are incredibly loyal but they also call out fake and empty words when they see it. Philly fans would be outraged at their organization for such a pathetic display.

You can watch all of Crane's opening remarks here, but the line worth banging a trashcan about over and over is: "Our opinion is this didn’t impact the game. We had a good team. We won the World Series and we’ll leave it at that.”

Absolutely nobody in the baseball world will leave it at that. What a disgrace.
