Watch: Cameron Rupp is pissed after Mets throw at his head, benches clear

In what was ultimately mostly meaningless baseball for both the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets, the two teams showed that rivals can still despise each other even when nothing more than pride is on the line.

Okay, that's not entirely true. The Phillies are still trying to avoid 100 losses on the season and the Mets are jockeying for homefield advantage over the Los Angeles Dodgers if the two were to meet in the playoffs, as CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury pointed out.

So maybe there was a little extra tension in the air. A few errant pitches from the Phillies found their way into Mets' hitters' bodies and that got tempers a bit hotter. Benches were warned but that didn't stop the beanball action from continuing.

It was once again Mets' reliever Hansel Robles who really lit a fire when he quick-pitched high and tight at the head of Phillies catcher Cameron Rupp who was none too pleased as you can clearly see from his reaction in the below video. Not sure why he was talking about mother frogs though.

"He didn't do it on purpose," the Mets broadcaster says of Robles with a presumably straight face. I'm a little sad MLB.com decided not to include Larry Andersen and Scott Franzke's interpretation of events.

The benches cleared but nobody went Full Papelbon on each other which is a bummer for sports blogs like this one.

Alas, the Phillies came away with the late come-from-behind victory which is good enough for one day of hating the Mets.
