A look at an intriguing buyout possibility for the 76ers

76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey is likely searching for one or two more pieces to bolster the team’s rotation as they head toward what they hope will be a deep postseason run. One position that could use some depth is at the 4 spot.

An interesting name could become available soon, at least according to one report. Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer mentions in his NBA power rankings that teams are looking at Otto Porter Jr., and that Porter could have his contract bought out.

There’s a lot to like about Porter’s game. He’s a productive rebounder, has solid shooting range (career 40.4% from 3) and can play either 3 or 4 as needed. He won’t hurt you defensively, as he has averaged better than a steal a game in his career.

The one red flag is his health. Since being traded from the Wizards to the Bulls in February of 2019, he’s dealt with back issues, which has limited him to 45 total games. He’s been inactive for the Bulls’ last 15 games, but a report out of NBC Sports Chicago says he is targeting a return soon after the All-Star break.

If Porter can remain healthy, he could be a nice bench addition to a team that needs it.
