The thought of potentially being inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame still makes Allen Iverson a little emotional.
“It’ll mean a lot to me because of Larry Brown, Eric Snow, Aaron McKie — the guys that helped me accomplish something like that,” Iverson said to CSN's Dei Lynam on Thursday night during a gala at the Palestra to launch the Sixers Youth Foundation.
“All the dudes that you saw me fight with, night in and night out, I hope they feel it and I hope they love it. I hope it means something to them because without those guys, it couldn’t be accomplished.”
Known for his passionate play — along with his passionate outbursts — Iverson talked about what the hardest part will be for him when entering the Hall of Fame.
“You know I get emotional,” he said. “If that happens for me, that’s going to be the toughest part — talking about the people that helped me get there.”
While Iverson was unsure about how he would handle possibly joining the game's greats in the HOF, he was much more to the point about the current state of the Sixers' rebuild.
"Allen Iverson ain't walking through the door tomorrow or the next day or whatever," he said (see video). "We got to recognize and understand that they're young, they're talented and there's a future for these guys."
