Charles Barkley: ‘People are too hard on the Sixers'

Sir Charles joined the man formerly known as The Sports Guy on his new podcast on Wednesday. The topics were wide ranging, from Auburn getting their money's worth out of Cam Newton to almost every NBA topic you can imagine including Blake Griffin's jab.

Perhaps most interesting to Philadelphia, Barkley said he believes that people are too hard on the Sixers.

Sam Hinkie's club came up when Bill Simmons and Chuck were talking about the problem of superstars like Ben Simmons always ending up on crappy teams. The NBA rewards failure, Simmons believes. Chuck seems to think keeping college kids in school a second year could help.

Simmons pointed to the Okafor situation in Philly being awful for the former Dukie. That's when Chuck came to Philly's defense.

"People are too hard on the Sixers," Barkley said.

“I think the Sixers are going to get good quickly. First of all, if they had Joel Embiid, they would have an outside chance of making the playoffs.”

Simmons wasn’t sold.

“They’re in the Eastern Conference. They only have to win a couple of games. I’m a big Embiid fan. They may not have even taken Okafor if they had Embiid. They might have taken another guard.”

Then he said something weird about how the Lakers “might have taken Okafor.” Except they didn't.

The Sixers most certainly could have gone in a different direction if Embiid was anything remotely close to a sure thing. Alas, Embiid is still a big unknown and Okafor and Nerlens Noel can't seem to share the floor together.

Still, people are pretty hard on the Sixers.
