Covington released from hospital; both he, Grant out vs. Pistons

After being carted off the court in a stretcher during Friday’s game, Robert Covington has been released from Jefferson Hospital, per a team spokesperson. Spike Eskin from 94-WIP first reported the story. Covington had spent the night for a precautionary stay.

Covington and Jerami Grant have entered the NBA concussion protocol. Both players will miss Saturday’s game against the Pistons (see game notes).

Covington and Grant were injured in the third quarter of the Sixers' win over the Nets when Grant attempted to swat the ball from Donald Sloan, fell and kicked Covington in the face-neck area on his way to the ground.

Grant was able to walk off the court with the team’s trainer. Covington stayed down longer and was taken out on a stretcher, giving the crowd a thumbs up as he left the arena.

Richaun Holmes, who suffered a right achilles strain in the third, will also sit out Saturday.
