Robert Covington was carted off the court on a stretcher in the third quarter of the Sixers' game Friday against the Nets. Covington was transported to Jefferson Hospital and is being evaluated for a possible neck injury.
As Donald Sloan went in the paint, a leaping Jerami Grant appeared to attempt to block a potential shot. While Grant fell to the ground, he caught Covington in the face with the heel of his sneaker.
Covington was spun around Sloan and hit the court, where he lay on his back while medical staff tended to him. His close friend Isaiah Canaan stood nearby attentively watching.
Grant also hit the court and landed on his stomach. He walked off the court with the assistance of the team's trainer. Grant will be evaluated for a concussion and will not return to the game.
Richaun Holmes later exited with a right Achilles strain and was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Covington had been leading the Sixers with 12 points (including 4 for 6 from three) and four rebounds in 17 minutes. Grant, who started in place of the injured Jahlil Okafor, had posted seven points, two rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes.
