The Sixers’ 2022 draft night had its comings and goings. When it’s all said and done, they will send forward David Roddy – the player they selected 23rd overall – and the contract of injured veteran swingman Danny Green – to the Memphis Grizzlies for young combo guard De’Anthony Melton.
Green’s two seasons with the Sixers each ended the same way: an unforeseen injury during the team’s second-round playoff series, that they eventually lost. This year, he suffered a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee when Joel Embiid fell on him in Game 6 against the Miami Heat.
The 35-year-old’s value, both on the court and in his locker room, will be missed, his expiring contract was valuable to a team trying to add talent and depth to make another run at an NBA title.

Moving Green wasn’t a shock, considering he won’t be healthy for several months, but he was a solid contributor during his two seasons with the team.
After reports of the trade were public, Green took to social media to bid farewell to the team and its fanbase.
Green has always been a class act. Fans expected nothing less from his parting message. Here’s hoping for a full recovery, and maybe he can run into the Sixers again in the NBA Finals next year.
