Legendary college basketball coach Herb Magee will retire after this season.
Magee, a 2011 inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame, has gone 1,123-444 as the head coach at the school now known as Thomas Jefferson University (formerly Philadelphia Textile and Philadelphia University).
Only Duke's Mike Krzyzewski has more wins as a men's college basketball coach than Magee, with 1,170.
Current associate head coach Jimmy Reilly will succeed Magee, Jefferson University announced in a press release.
In addition to his immense success as a head coach, Magee is renowned for his work as a shooting guru, tweaking the jumpers of NBA players. He's widely known as "The Shot Doctor."
Magee, 80, is a native of Philadelphia. He played at West Catholic High School and Philadelphia Textile before beginning his coaching career.
"Coach Magee is one of the greatest coaches in the history of Philadelphia basketball," Villanova head coach Jay Wright said in the Jefferson University release. "He is an educator on and off the court, as well as a legendary winner. He has mentored countless young men as players and coaches. Coach has also mastered teaching the art of shooting like no one else in the game. Through the years, he has done it all with incredible integrity. No one in coaching has combined teaching, mentoring, winning and class as proficiently as Coach Magee."
