How the NBA's best friendship duo is surviving coronavirus quarantine

Share

When former Sixers big man Boban Marjanovic departed for the Dallas Mavericks last offseason, the famed Bobi-Tobi pairing was no more. Marjanovic and Tobias Harris would spend a season apart.

Now, with the NBA season at a standstill amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Harris and Marjanovic can't even meet up for pre-game coffees in each other's cities, or spend the rare day off together.

Don't worry about the league's best friendship: Bobi and Tobi are still doing just fine, according to Harris, who appeared on Fox Sports Detroit's Let It Fly podcast this week.

But it sounds like Marjanovic would like to be reunited with his buddy sooner rather than later, because he recently floated an off-the-wall idea to Harris that had the Sixers' forward very confused.

Here's Harris explaining Bobi's idea, in all its glory:

KANE: How's your buddy Bobi doing?

HARRIS: Man, he's doing well. We probably speak two, three times a week. He's working on his YouTube channel right now. So he's getting that started.
[Laughs]

The other day he was like, 'Look man, we need to do this.' So I'm like, 'Yeah, let's do it.' He's like, 'Open up the map.' I'm like, 'What map?' He goes, 'The map on the phone!' So, alright. And then he's like, 'Listen, let's meet between Dallas and Philly, and do the Bobi & Tobi show.' I'm like, 'What? I'm not getting on a plane.' He goes, 'Just drive!' I'm like, 'I'm not driving eight hours to do your show!'

[...]

He wants to meet me in Tennessee or something. I don't know, man.

Look, for a guy as tall as Marjanovic, meeting in between Dallas and Philly probably takes something like 12 strides of his comically long legs. But for Harris, and every other normal human being, that's quite a trek.

Also, Boban referring to Google Maps as "open up the map" is amazing.

For the record, Google Maps says the trip from Dallas to Philadelphia is 1,467 miles and takes 22 hours by car. And Harris was right about the midpoint: if the two meet in Cookeville, Tennessee, a town outside of Nashville, Harris will drive 726 miles and Marjanovic will drive 743 miles.

"Live from Cookeville, Tennessee, it's The Bobi & Tobi Show!"

I can't wait.
