Jahlil Okafor needs knee surgery, out for season

Jahlil Okafor's rookie season is over.

Okafor has a torn meniscus in his right knee and is expected to miss six weeks. The Sixers' forward/center, who has missed the last five games with injuries to the shin/knee, will undergo arthroscopic surgery, which has yet to be scheduled.

Unless he recovers quicker than expected, Okafor will miss the rest of the regular season, which ends April 13 at Chicago.

While he was rehabbing the shin injury, Okafor began to experience problems with his knee. He also sat out two games in December with discomfort in the knee.

Okafor leads the Sixers in scoring with 17.5 points per contest, including 21.6 in his last five games. He is second in the league among rookies in scoring behind Minnesota's Karl-Anthony Towns, who enters Friday averaging 17.7. Okafor is also averaging 7.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

The Sixers host the Nets on Friday night and the Pistons on Saturday night.
