Josh Harris: ‘I give Brett an A for the job he's done'

GALLOWAY, N.J. — Heading into the third year of his four-year contract, Sixers head coach Brett Brown’s future with the team has been the early topic during the first days of training camp.

Though the coach has yet to sniff the playoffs with the Sixers and has been handed the very difficult task of rebuilding the team from the bottom up, the team’s brass has been pleased with the job Brown has performed.

However, like general manager Sam Hinkie on Wednesday, managing owner Josh Harris isn’t quite ready to discuss a contract extension with the coach.

“It’s probably not appropriate for me to talk about specifics about what the negotiations are with him,” Harris said during a media conference on Thursday at the team’s training camp at Stockton College.

That isn’t to say Harris is disappointed with the job Brown has done. Actually, it’s the opposite of that. Harris said Brown is exactly the right man to coach the Sixers given the tough task of working with young and inexperienced players.

“I give Brett an A for the job he’s done,” Harris said. “He’s been an incredible player development person, which is what we need at this point in time. He’s a great person to be around. He’s enthusiastic and he’s a born coach and a leader of men. I’m very impressed with Brett and I hope and expect Brett to be around the team for a very long time.”

But for now, there are no discussions with the coach on extending his contract beyond the 2016-17 season.
