MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies have traded forward Donte Greene to the Boston Celtics for center Fab Melo.
The team announced the deal Thursday.
The 7-foot, 255-pound Melo played six games with the Celtics last season and averaged 1.2 points. He averaged 9.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and a league-high 3.1 blocks in 33 games for the NBA Development League's Maine Red Claws. Boston drafted the native of Juiz de For a, Brazil, with the 22nd pick overall in 2012 after he played two seasons at Syracuse.
The Grizzlies signed the 6-11 Greene on April 17 but did not appear in a game for Memphis. He has played 253 games over four seasons with Sacramento, averaging 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds. Greene missed most of last season recovering from a broken ankle (see full story).
Mavericks: Seven signings introduced
DALLAS -- Monta Ellis says he had to do "60 percent of everything" in Golden State and Milwaukee.
Since the new Dallas Mavericks guard might use that to explain why he shot an alarmingly low 29 percent from 3-point range last season, he's about to find out if a little help will make any difference.
That's because new backcourt mate Jose Calderon wants to be the facilitator for Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki and everyone else on a roster that is going through its third makeover in as many seasons.
Ellis and Calderon were among seven free agents introduced in Dallas on Thursday. The list included an old Maverick in Devin Harris, who started his career in Dallas as a top five pick nine years ago, and a returning one in Brandan Wright, who figures to be the backup to another newcomer in Samuel Dalembert (see full story).
Wizards: Al Harrington signed
WASHINGTON -- The Washington Wizards have signed veteran forward Al Harrington.
The Wizards are Harrington's seventh NBA team as he enters his 16th season. He's averaged 13.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 947 career games.
Harrington played in only 10 games with the Orlando Magic last season because of a right knee injury.
