LOS ANGELES -- Lamar Odom and Khloe Kardashian have decided to stay married as the former NBA star continues his recovery a week after he was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel.
Kardashian's lawyer, Laura Wasser, filed a petition Wednesday to dismiss the reality star's divorce filing from December 2013. A clerk granted the request in such a way that the divorce papers can be refiled at a later date.
The document doesn't state a reason for the change but shows Odom signed off on dismissing the divorce Tuesday.
Kardashian has been by Odom's side since he was found in extremely critical condition Oct. 13 at the Love Ranch brothel in the rural community of Crystal, Nevada, and hospitalized in Las Vegas. He regained consciousness Friday and was transported to Los Angeles on Monday.
Kardashian posted a statement to her website Monday saying Odom made "incredible strides" at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas and thanking the doctors and nurses "for their kindness and diligent work."
The hospital and Odom's relatives have not revealed his prognosis, but the family has hinted at a long road ahead, saying they realize his "continued improvement" won't be easy (see full story).
Cavs: Thompson agrees to five-year deal
CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers and free-agent forward Tristan Thompson have agreed in principle on a five-year, $82 million contract, ending his holdout.
NBA
Thompson, who helped the Cavs get to the NBA Finals last season when he filled in for an injured Kevin Love during the playoffs, had been seeking a maximum deal. The sides had been at a stalemate, but reached a verbal agreement Wednesday, less than a week before the season opener.
The team hopes to make the signing official Thursday.
After Thompson declined to sign a one-year, $6.9 million qualifying offer from the team, it appeared he might be willing to sit out part of the regular season. LeBron James had called Thompson's holdout a "distraction" during training camp.
But he'll be on the floor as the Cavs try to defend their Eastern Conference title.
Thompson averaged 10.8 rebounds in the playoffs last season.
Cavs: LeBron, Michelle Obama host event
AKRON, Ohio -- LeBron James welcomed a high-profile guest to show kids in his hometown that they can grow up to be anything they want.
The NBA star appeared with first lady Michelle Obama on Wednesday to celebrate the importance of education and to challenge thousands of children in his family foundation's program to finish college.
James and Obama took the stage together inside the University of Akron's Rhodes Arena, a venue where the four-time league MVP played many times while in high school.
Obama pointed out to the children and their parents that she grew up on the south side of Chicago, "where we didn't have a lot of money or a lot of resources."
She then turned toward James, who wore a blue T-shirt with "We Are Family" -- one of his foundation's slogans -- on the front (see full story).
Bucks: Marcus Landry waived
MILWAUKEE -- Marcus Landry's chance to make his hometown team ended after the Milwaukee Bucks waived the forward.
Landry averaged 2.5 points in four preseason games. The former Wisconsin forward played his last game with Milwaukee on Tuesday at the Kohl Center, the Badgers' home court in Madison, when the Bucks beat Minnesota 106-88.
Landry had five points, three rebounds and two blocks, playing the entire fourth quarter. He received a warm reception from the crowd.
But the 6-foot-7 Landry's odds to make a Bucks roster stocked with young talent were slim, especially with forward Jabari Parker expected to return to the floor by mid-November from a left knee injury.
The team also waived guard Jorge Gutierrez and forward Josh Powell on Wednesday.
