With just over seven minutes remaining in the Sixers' preseason, Robert Covington went down.
The 24-year-old suffered a right knee sprain Friday night during the team's preseason finale, an 81-65 loss to the Boston Celtics in Manchester, New Hampshire (see story). No further details were provided.
Covington left the game in the fourth quarter and did not return after landing awkwardly following a missed layup. He remained down before being helped off the court by teammates.
The second-year Sixer, a projected starter, finished with five points on 1 of 9 shooting while collecting four rebounds and three steals.
Covington enjoyed a breakout season in 2014-15, averaging 13.5 points per game — best among the team's active players at season's end — while making 167 three-pointers, 10th-most in the NBA.
The Sixers open the regular season on Oct. 28 in Boston against the Celtics.
