Sixers forward Robert Covington has a sprained right knee and will miss at least the first week of the season, a league source told CSNPhilly.com's John Finger.
Covington also could miss the second week as well, the source said. Yahoo! Sports' Shams Charania reported Saturday night he has a sprained MCL and bone bruise.
The 24-year-old suffered the injury in Friday night's 81-65 loss to the Boston Celtics in Manchester, New Hampshire, the team's preseason finale.
In his second season with the Sixers, Covington left the game in the fourth quarter after landing awkwardly on a layup attempt. He did not return.
A projected starter, Covington finished the finale with five points on 1 of 9 shooting with four rebounds and three steals.
Last season, Covington averaged 13.5 points and made 167 three-pointers, 10th-most in the NBA.
The Sixers' regular season tips off Wednesday night against the Celtics in Boston. They practice at 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
