Though Thursday night’s NBA draft and free agency are at the front of the Sixers’ mind, the team isn’t too far away from playing basketball again.
The NBA on Wednesday released its summer league schedule, which includes five games in Las Vegas for all 30 teams. Per a league release, the two teams with the best records through four games will meet in a championship game on Aug 17, while all other teams will play a fifth game on Aug. 16 or Aug. 17.
Here’s the Sixers’ schedule for their first four games:
- Aug. 9: Mavericks, 4 p.m. ET on NBA TV
- Aug. 12: Hawks, 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2
- Aug. 14: Celtics, 5 p.m. ET on NBA TV
- Aug. 15: Timberwolves, 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2
Training camp for the 2021-22 season will begin on Sept. 28, while the regular season will start on Oct. 19.
The NBA did not hold a summer league last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
While it is not yet known which Sixers will participate in summer league, it’s typically a good opportunity for younger players to develop skills in game settings. Players such as Tyrese Maxey, Isaiah Joe and Paul Reed would be logical candidates to take part after missing out on summer league as rookies, as well as any picks the Sixers make in the draft. The team holds the 28th and 50th selections.
