Almost nineteen years ago, Allen Iverson nailed a baseline jumper and stepped over Tyronn Lue, Eric Snow sunk a clutch runner on his fractured ankle and the Sixers stunned the Lakers in Game 1 of the 2001 NBA Finals.
The all-black uniforms they wore that night have long been a favorite for many Sixers fans, and they earned a high ranking on a recent national list.
ESPN ranked the 74 best jerseys in NBA history, and the Sixers’ all-black unis came in at No. 13. (ESPN has the Lakers’ Showtime gold, the Celtics’ classic green and the Bulls’ road red as the top three.)

The Sixers also had six other jerseys that made the cut:
-The red uniforms Iverson donned as a rookie (No. 72)
-Two-tone “PHILA” uniforms worn in 1965-66 (No. 60)
-Red jerseys from the 1980s (No. 57)
-Blue bicentennial uniforms (No. 48)
-Classic uniforms from the 1966-67 championship season (No. 47)
-Modern-day blue and modern-day white uniforms (No. 41)
Uniform rankings are obviously subjective by nature. I personally like the style of the mid-to-late '90s, for whatever reason, but everyone has their own preferences.
The all-black jerseys seem to have a widespread appeal that goes beyond Philadelphians’ nostalgia about Iverson’s incredible MVP season and the last Sixers team to win the Eastern Conference. Next year will be the 20-year anniversary of that season, a nice round number … just saying.
