Stephen Colbert was on vacation last week because the NCAA Tournament took over the CBS networks. He brought up the entertaining tournament last night and his rooting interest at this point may surprise you.
Colbert started off by asking his band leader, Jon Batiste, if he had been following March Madness.
In a somewhat awkward back and forth, Batiste admitted he hasn't watched any of the tournament because he has to sleep and stuff. Colbert then shared who he was rooting for..
"I'm pulling for Villanova right now," Colbert said. "I was pulling for UVA but they collapsed in the face of Syracuse last night. The last minutes they gave up like 27 points to 8 points in the last six minutes of the game. It was the biggest stomping Virginia's had since like 1865. So now I have to go Villanova."
Sadly, Colbert never goes any deeper to explain why he's jumping on the Wildcats Wagon, so we'll just have to speculate. He probably just used the rooting-interest thing to setup that Virginia joke.
You can watch the interaction around the 8:00 minute mark of this clip.
