Temple's success leads to exciting, fun pro day

Temple's pro day on Wednesday was one of the more exciting ones in the school's recent history.

The Owls had five players play in postseason All-Star games and three players participate at the combine. Head coach Matt Rhule said this year is just the beginning for his program.

"The reason why everyone is here is the way our seniors played," Rhule said. "I think it speaks volumes to the talent we have and it will be the same thing next year with our seniors next year."

One of the seniors from this class is linebacker Tyler Matakevich. Matakevich has been in the national spotlight all season, winning the Chuck Bednarik Award (best linebacker) and Bronco Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player), and being named an All-American.

Matakevich is projected to go somewhere between the third and fifth round and will likely be the first Temple player to come off the board in the 2016 NFL draft.

"I think I did well for myself," Matakevich said. "I think I did great in the drills at the combine. At the Senior Bowl I think I did pretty well for myself, made a bunch of tackles."

Cornerback Tavon Young, defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis and center Kyle Friend, who put up an impressive 41 reps at 225 pounds during the bench press, will have a chance to hear their names called during the draft.
