It's been a fun series of reminding the visiting Jayson Werth what he'd be missing when he chose not to re-sign with the Phillies this off-season, like the ace-level pitching of Vance Worley and the reliable power hitting of Raul Ibanez. The Phillies took the first two games of their first home series of the year against the Natinals with relative ease, and look to make it a clean sweep tonight with Roy Halladay—I think this guy's one of our good starters, but honestly, who can keep track these days—taking the mound.
After scuffling for the first time this season three starts ago against the Brewers, the Good Doctor posted back-to-back beastly performances (a combined 17 2/3 innings, 22 strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs) against the Padres and Mets, and appears to be his old charming self again. Historically, Halladay has owned DC like his name was Barack Hussein, posting a 7-0 record with a 1.54 ERA since the Nats moved south of the Canadian border. With the Nats' offense mired in a Zimmerman-injured, Werth-sucking funk—the team hasn't scored more than four runs in any of their last ten games—I like Doc's chances of keeping up his undefeated streak tonight.
7:05 first pitch from CBP. Are you worried about Roy Halladay's pitch count getting way up there for the third straight start? Charlie Manuel isn't. “Roy’s condition is off the chart," says Uncle Cholly. "We all know that. I will compare him to a boxer who’s going 12 rounds and he’s trying for 25,” manager Charlie Manuel said. “He’s always got something in the tank.”
