Eagles-Jaguars: 5 things you need to know

1. When and where
The Eagles (1-1) will hit the road for the first time this preseason when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-2) Saturday night at Everbank Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on 6ABC. Merrill Reese will call the game on 94 WIP and the Eagles Radio Network with Mike Quick providing analysis.

2. Preseason series
Saturday will mark the third meeting between the Eagles and Jaguars in the all-time preseason series. The previous two contests were held at Lincoln Financial Field, with the Eagles winning both matchups.

In each of the two preseason games between these two teams, the Eagles rallied to cap come-from-behind victories. Former Eagles kicker David Akers nailed game-winning field goals in both contests.

3. Follow the leader
The suspense is over.

Earlier this week, Chip Kelly named Michael Vick the Eagles' starting quarterback after nearly 40 practices between the spring camps and training camp (see story).

Vick, who beat out Nick Foles for the starting gig, has completed 13 of 15 passes for 199 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception -- on a Hail Mary -- this preseason.

Foles has completed 78 percent of his passes so far this preseason, but he has also turned the ball over. He fumbled on his first drive against New England and threw a first-series interception last Friday against Carolina.

Kelly said Vick would likely play the first half and possibly longer against the Jaguars on Saturday.

4. Connections
The Jaguars have a few familiar faces currently on their roster.

Defensive end Jason Babin held two stints with the Eagles (2009, 2011-12). In 2011, Babin collected 18.0 sacks -- the highest of his career -- and received Pro Bowl honors for the second consecutive season. The Eagles released Babin on Nov. 27, 2012 following a loss to the Carolina Panthers. Babin had 5.5 sacks through 11 games before joining the Jags.

Quarterback Mike Kafka, who was a fourth-round pick of the Eagles in the 2010 draft, spent two seasons with the Birds. Kafka was released during the Eagles' final roster cuts in August of 2012. The New England Patriots signed Kafka to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 4, 2012, but released the QB on June 10, 2013 after the team signed Tim Tebow. Jacksonville claimed Kafka off waivers one day after his release by the Pats.

Tight end Brett Brackett spent the 2012 preseason with the Eagles before he was waived as part of the team's final roster cutdown. Brackett, a native of Lawrenceville, NJ, was also a four-year letterman at Penn State.

In a local connection, Eagles Hall of Famer and current director of player development, Harold Carmichael, attended Raines High School in Jacksonville. Carmichael played 13 of his 14 NFL seasons for the Eagles and was elected to four Pro Bowls in his career.
