Julio Mateo, who was with the Phils briefly before being released last off-season, has been arrested on suspicion of forgery after the fuzz found fake $100 bills in his hotel room. Apparently, Mateo had used a fake to stiff a cabbie out of a $27 cab fare.
Police said the cab driver later used the fake bill to pay a lease fee upon
returning the vehicle, but a cashier using a marking pen identified the currency
as bogus. The driver returned to the team’s hotel and called police. After investigating officers received permission from Mateo to enter his
hotel room, an officer saw “two stacks (of) money with $100 bills on top of the
stacks,” a police report said.
Glad to see he's gotten his life back together after the whole wife-beating thing. The 30-year-old had been playing in the Giants farm system.
