Give the Gloves Some Love

The World Champion Phillies could be receiving some more hardware in the coming days, perhaps another MVP award, and even an outside chance at the Cy Young.  For now, they'll settle for a pair of golden mitts.

For the second year in a row, Jimmy Rollins has won the National League's Gold Glove for shortstop.  Rollins has dazzled us for years with his fine play in the field, but it's great that he has finally been getting recognition for being one of the outstanding fielders in all of baseball.

The other Phillies recipient of the Gold Glove is Shane Victorino in just his first season as the club's starting center fielder.  This was really a big surprise to me, not because he doesn't deserve it, I just wasn't sure how much credit the rest of the league gave the Flyin' Hawaiian for his defense, and his all around play for that matter.

Victorino gunned down runners for 7 outfield assists, and has racked up 28 total in the past three seasons while committing only 5 errors.  Shane has saved several games with his strong throws, and this is a huge honor for a guy many fans felt would never be an everyday player.

Keep the trophies coming!
