Last night's Flyers 4-3 OT win over the Islanders wasn't really one of those "What a game!" type of showings, but the play of Claude Giroux his 22+ minutes and the dramatic finish had it feeling that way. As we said in last night's post, Giroux may have played the best game of his career, with a motor running at a half speed higher than anyone else's on the ice. Shift after shift, he was making a difference. Truth be told, if he had an ordinary showing, the Flyers lose that game.
But he showed the Isles these road points wouldn't come easy, most notably with a huge hip check on Frans Nielsen less than 7 minutes into the game. He lined it up perfectly, but what was really amazing was how he kept up with Nielsen's drive into the Flyers' offensive zone—while skating backwards—before shutting off the boards. [video here]
But Giroux's night continued to improve from there, including dishing a pair of key assists. After the jump, Bill Clement's post-game breakdown of some of the many highlights Claude reeled off last night.
What more can we ask?
