We were pretty sure the Flyers would be saying goodbye to transition Captain Jason Smith this off-season, but we're surprised to hear where he's headed. Despite early reports that Gator would be headed to New Jersey, the black-eyed defenseman has signed a 2-year, $5-million deal with the Ottawa Senators.
Smith played solidly here in Philly, and no one could question his grit. However, we saw a few two many instant replays of opposing teams' goals with Smith sprawling across the crease to justify re-signing him at this state of his 14-year career. He was a great addition for a season though.
Mike Richards is the natural fit for the C next season and for the foreseeable future, despite what he might have said last season.
