La Salle lands Syracuse transfer B.J. Johnson

Former Syracuse forward B.J. Johnson will transfer to La Salle, a source confirmed to CSNPhilly.com.

CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein first reported the move.

A Lower Merion High School product, Johnson was rated as the No. 82 overall recruit in the Class of 2013 by ESPN.com.

Johnson appeared in 24 games for the Orange in the 2014-15 season, starting four. He averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 15.1 minutes a game.

As per NCAA transfer rules, Johnson will sit out the 2015-16 season and begin playing for the Explorers in 2016-17.

The 6-foot-7 Johnson has ties to La Salle that go beyond his Main Line roots: his father, Bobby, played for La Salle and was a part of the famed 1989-90 Explorers squad that went 30-2.

Dr. John Giannini's club finished the year 17-16 overall. La Salle's season ended after a heartbreaking 67-66 loss to Davidson in the Atlantic 10 tournament quarterfinals in which the Explorers let a lead that reached 18 in the first half slip away.
