Ryan Howard Comes Up Short in 2008 NL MVP Voting

Share

Ryan Howard came up with warning track power in the 2008 NL MVP voting as Albert Pujols took home the hardware.

Howard was second with Ryan Braun and Manny Ramirez rounding out the top 4.

The main take away from this year's NL MVP voting is that the voters clearly didn't put an emphasis on the importance of helping lead your team to a successful season and a trip to the postseason. While you can't really argue with Pujols having better all around numbers, Howard came up huge when it mattered most while the Cardinals were fourth in the Central.

When you're dealing with two players like Pujols and Howard, you can't really go wrong picking one over the other. As a Phillies fan, obviously we pull for our own guy. Congratulations to Ryan Howard for a great season.

Pujols won the award in 2005 before Phillies Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins took back-to-back honors in '06 and '07. So it wasn't like this year was a situation where voters may have been looking at perhaps rewarding a player for an extensive resume of work without being recognized.
