St. Joe's DeAndre' Bembry named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year

St. Joe's forward DeAndre' Bembry on Tuesday was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, while senior Isaiah Miles received the Chris Daniels Most Improved Player Award.

Bembry also took home A-10 First-Team honors for the second straight year, and was named to the All-Defensive Team. Miles was named to the All-Conference Second Team. Freshman Lamarr Kimble, who goes by the nickname "Fresh," made the All-Rookie Team.

In his junior season on Hawk Hill, Bembry is averaging 17 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals. Bembry is just one of three players in the country averaging over 17 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4 assists and the only player to do it with less than 2.5 turnovers per game.

He is the first Hawk to be named A-10 Player of the Year since Ahmad Nivins in 2008-09, and the fifth player overall. Pat Carroll (co-,2004-05), Jameer Nelson (2003-04) and Maurice Martin (1985-86) were the others. He's the sixth Hawk to earn multiple First-Team honors.

Bembry, a 6-foot-6 forward, has reached double figures in all of St. Joe's 31 games, and has eight double-doubles on the season.

Miles became the first Hawk since Delonte West in 2002-03 to win the Most Improved Player Award. The guard leads St. Joe's with 18 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. He averaged 10.7 points and 5.1 rebounds in his junior season. Like Bembry, Miles also has score double figures in all 31 games, with nine double-doubles and 10 20-plus point games.

Earlier this season, he surpassed 1,000 career points and became the 53rd player to do so in St. Joe's history. He also has three 30-plus point games this season

The freshman Kimble is coming off the bench this season for Phil Martelli's squad, but has found himself in a supporting role. He's averaging 5.9 points, 2.4 assists and just 1.1 turnovers in his first year on Hawk Hill, with nine games of double-digit scoring.

St. Joe's finished the regular season 24-5 overall and 13-5 in the A-10. The Hawks are the No. 4 seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, which begins Wednesday.

The Hawks don't play until Friday in the quarterfinals. Tip-off will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. They'll face either George Washington, George Mason or Saint Louis.
