Temple had been awaiting the result of Monday night’s matchup between Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M to find out who it would take on next in the NIT.
The Owls got their answer as Louisiana Tech cruised to an 84-72 victory.
The third-seeded Bulldogs visit the first-seeded Owls at the Liacouras Center on Wednesday, March 25 in the quarterfinals with a trip to Madison Square Garden on the line. The game is scheduled for 9 p.m.
Wednesday’s matchup will be the second of the season between the two teams. Temple defeated Louisiana Tech on Nov. 17, 82-75, behind 20-point performances from Will Cummings and Quenton DeCosey. The Owls played without Jesse Morgan and Devin Coleman, who were still sitting out because of NCAA transfer rules, as well as Jaylen Bond, who missed the game with an ankle injury.
The Owls are currently 25-10 on the year, while the Bulldogs sit at 27-8 overall.
Temple beat Bucknell, 73-76, in the opening round of the tournament. Cummings went off for a season-high 30 points, playing like a man looking to avenge a NCAA Tournament snub. On Sunday afternoon, the Owls ended George Washington’s season, winning 90-77 (see story).
Wednesday night’s game against Louisiana Tech can be seen on ESPN2.
