Temple guard Will Cummings has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the first time in his career.
The senior helped lead the Owls to victory in two must-win games over East Carolina and Connecticut this past week.
Cummings scored 23 points and dished out five assists in Temple’s 75-63 win Saturday over the Huskies. Against the Pirates on Thursday, the Jacksonville, Fla. native made his presence felt in all aspects of the game in the 70-56 victory, recording 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
He leads the Owls with 14.1 points, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals in 34.0 minutes per contest. He was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week earlier this year on Feb. 16.
Cummings becomes the fourth Temple player to take home the Big 5 weekly honor, following the footsteps of Quenten DeCosey Jesse Morgan and Jaylen Bond.
The Owls are 22-9 overall on the year, sitting squarely on the NCAA tournament bubble. They will look to use a strong showing in the American Athletic Conference tournament to propel them into the Big Dance.
They begin play in the conference tournament at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. Friday against Memphis at 2 p.m. on ESPN2.
