Villanova heads into the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden with a 12-game winning streak, 29-2 record and, still, a No. 4 national ranking.
In the most recent AP Top 25 poll released Monday, the Wildcats, vying for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, stayed at No. 4, the ranking they held last week.
Unbeaten Kentucky (31-0) remains the consensus No. 1 team, followed by No. 2 Duke (28-3), which moved up a spot, and No. 3 Virginia (28-2), which moved down a spot.
Villanova is coming off a pair of wins last week, one over Creighton and the other a 37-point beatdown of St. John's, eliciting high praise from Red Storm coach Steve Lavin.
“They’re playing at a very high level," Lavin said Saturday after his team's loss to the Wildcats. "They’re playing the best basketball of anybody in the country, and we saw that on display.”
Villanova, already with its most wins in program history during a single season, will play Thursday at noon in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament against the winner of eighth-seeded Seton Hall versus ninth-seeded Marquette.
