Amid all the buzz around Antonio Brown, Eagles restructure Alshon Jeffery's contract

While most of the buzz around the NFL on Saturday was about the constant, bizarre drama surrounding Antonio Brown — who, last we checked, had agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots — there was some news in Philadelphia about an in-house wide receiver.

The Eagles announced that they’ve restructured Alshon Jeffery’s contract. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the details of the restructured deal.

That means Jeffery is, barring an unforeseen trade, locked in for next season and won't have to play this year worried about his future contract situation. For the Eagles, converting the majority of that $11.75 million to a signing bonus creates salary cap flexibility in the short term.

Jeffery has said he's done dwelling on the ball that slipped through his hands in the Eagles' divisional round loss to the Saints, and he has high expectations this year.

“At the same time, I’m human, I’ve moved on from it,” he said in July. “There’s always next year and you can get better. This year, hopefully, we’re holding up another trophy.”

Jeffery, who saw limited action in the preseason, had 65 catches, 843 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns for the Eagles last season. The Eagles kick off the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field against the Redskins.
