Backup center David Molk decides to retire

Restricted free agent David Molk won't be on the Eagles in 2016.

He won't be on any team.

The 27-year-old backup center has decided to retire, according to a league source. (UPDATE, 12:53 p.m.: The team announced it.)

His retirement comes after he was lost for most of the 2015 season when he tore his right bicep in the season opener against Atlanta. He suffered the injury on special teams, on a field-goal block unit.

Molk, who was a restricted free agent, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 9. The Eagles offered their other restricted free agent, Matt Tobin, a one-year tender (see story)

Molk was originally taken in the seventh round out of Michigan by the Chargers in 2012. He spent two seasons with the Eagles and started four games in 2014.
