The Eagles drafted 10 players last month and then they hit the eighth round, signing 13 undrafted players.
It total, they gave out more than $764K in guaranteed money to those 13 UDFAs. Five individual players got at least $90K guaranteed, including signing bonuses. When trying to gauge how much the Eagles like undrafted players, it’s often wise to follow the money.
With these 13 players, the Eagles gave out a total of $119,500 in signing bonuses, which is almost the maximum amount allowed by the league, according to CBS Sports’ Joel Corry.
Every undrafted player signs the same three-year contract, which means all 13 become restricted free agents in Year 4. Their base salaries are $610K, $780K and $895K per season over the next three years. So all these deals are basically three-year contracts worth $2.285 million — what differentiates them is the guaranteed money and signing bonuses. All that matters for salary cap purposes is guaranteed money.
The easiest way to tell how much a team likes an undrafted player is to follow the guaranteed money and signing bonus amounts.
Just last year, the Eagles held on to three of their four highest-paid UDFAs: T.J. Edwards, Nate Herbig and Sua Opeta, who all got at least $80,000 in guaranteed money.
