Odds are we're going to see some Eagle-on-Eagle action this Sunday in the NFL Pro Bowl.
In the televised draft on Wednesday night, safety Malcolm Jenkins was the 22nd pick by Michael Irvin's team. Jenkins made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career as a replacement and in his second season with the Eagles. Jenkins had 109 tackles, two interceptions and three forced fumbles this year.
In Friday's pre-selected phase, which encompassed fullbacks, linemen and specialists, Fletcher Cox was the first defensive player picked by Jerry Rice's team. Darren Sproles, in the game for his kick returning prowess, was taken by Team Irvin.
Cox will also be making his Pro Bowl debut after a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2015 season and forced three fumbles. Interestingly enough, Andy Reid, the Eagles' coach when Cox was drafted, is the head coach of Team Rice. In his rookie season under Reid, Cox had 5.5 sacks.
This is Sproles’ second consecutive Pro Bowl selection. He returned two punt returns for touchdowns this season and had four scores on offense as well.
Left tackle Jason Peters was originally selected to play in his eighth Pro Bowl but bowed out due to injury reasons (see story).
Team Irvin is captained by Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman and Cincinnati Bengals defensive tackle Geno Smith. New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald are the captains for Team Rice.
