The Eagles’ all-time leading rusher hit the open market on Saturday and there’s apparently some interest from the Eagles in a reunion.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are one of four teams who have the “strongest early interest” in LeSean McCoy.
It might be fun to think about Shady back in an Eagles uniform and they’ve kept his No. 25 open for him for years, but it just doesn’t make a ton of sense.
McCoy is 31 now and is coming off his worst season as a professional. And the Eagles seem set at the running back position with Jordan Howard, Miles Sanders, Corey Clement and Darren Sproles.
Would it make sense to bring in Shady and take away a role from any of those players?
It really doesn’t.

Who knows how much McCoy has left in him, but there has to be a better spot for him than to come back and be a situational backup here, right? That situation in Kansas City with Andy Reid seems like a much better fit.
Earlier on Saturday, when asked about Jadeveon Clowney, Howie Roseman said they look into every talented player that becomes available. Roseman is never shy about kicking tires, but this one doesn’t seem likely.
I don’t doubt that McCoy would like to return. He never wanted to leave when Chip Kelly unceremoniously traded him to Buffalo for Kiko Alonso in March of 2015. But that was over four years ago, which is a lot longer in running back years.
Maybe this would just be a fun way for Roseman to give a one-finger salute to Chipper, but it also seems like a real long shot.
