London Calling
NFL
The Eagles are trying to treat this like a normal week, but it’s not a normal week. They’re already in London. They left on Thursday night. The plan was to sleep as much as they could on the seven-hour flight across the Atlantic Ocean and then immediately be on local London time. That means a 2:30 p.m. practice in London, which would be about 9:30 a.m. back in the states.
A bunch of teams have done this trip before, so it’s not like the Eagles are going into this without any idea of how to handle it, but the Jaguars do it all the time. This will be their sixth game at Wembley Stadium, so they know exactly how to make this trip and how to not let it bother them. I was impressed with how the Eagles played after a week in California last year; let’s see if they can get another win out of an unusual situation.
Enough of the blame game
Anyone else sick of hearing fans go back and forth, blaming the offense or defense for that 21-17 loss to the Panthers? That argument lasted all week and both sides were right. It truly takes a team effort to lose a game like that. The defense simply can’t give up 21 points in the fourth quarter and the offense has to score more than 17 points in a game.
This is what happens when a team with high expectations doesn’t live up to them. We all try to figure out what went wrong. The problem with that is there’s no easy answer. A lot of things have been going wrong.
Where’s the offense?
The Eagles averaged over 28 points per game last season and this year, they have averaged 22.0 points per game. Twenty-one other teams have averaged more points per game. That’s shocking, especially considering the level Carson Wentz has been playing at since his return. He’s played five games so far, has a passer rating of 108.1 and has thrown 10 touchdowns to just one interception. And the offense still can’t score! It’s troubling and they will have a tough test in a good Jaguars defense on the road this week.
