Eagles free-agent targets: OG Kelechi Osemele

Kelechi Osemele, OG

Age: 26
Height: 6-5
Weight: 330
Last team: Baltimore Ravens

Scouting report
If the Eagles want to take their ground attack to the next level, Osemele is their man. The 2012 second-round draft pick out of Iowa State has graded out as one of the top-five run-blocking guards in the NFL each of the past two seasons, according to Pro Football Focus. When he gets his hands on a defender at the second level, it's over. Osemele is a quality pass protector, as well, and has the size and strength to more than hold his own against even the most disruptive interior linemen. He demonstrated versatility last season by sliding over from left guard to left tackle for the Ravens' final four games, though he performed better inside. Osemele missed two games each of the past two seasons and has not made it through a full 16 since his rookie season.

My take
There's no question Osemele would be a huge upgrade for the Eagles over journeyman Allen Barbre at left guard. The problem is the Ravens reportedly want to keep him at left tackle, which is going to pay him a lot more money. In fact, the offer currently on the table is said to be "aggressive." With that in mind, it would not be surprising to see a deal similar to the one the Eagles gave Lane Johnson — six years, $59 million with $35.5 million guaranteed. There's no way they're shelling out that kind of money for a guard, even if the plan is to have him eventually slide outside when Jason Peters moves on, whenever that would be. Osemele would be a big help, but it's difficult to envision the Eagles being serious players for his services should he hit the market.
