The Eagles hosted their second blood drive in as many months on Thursday at Lincoln Financial Field.
Thursday’s drive collected 90 pints of blood, which can help up to 270 patients. With these two drives (the previous one was on April 16), the Eagles have now collected 164 pints of blood, which can help up to 492 patients.
The Eagles paired up with the American Red Cross in an attempt to help the blood supply during the COVID-19 pandemic. The drive was held on Friday while maintaining social distancing guidelines.
So many blood drives have been canceled because of the pandemic, so giving blood safely is very important right now.
"Despite the challenges we’ve faced as a society over the past couple of months, the American Red Cross has courageously carried on with its life-saving mission of providing compassionate care for those in need,” Eagles owner Jeff Lurie said in a statement.
“We are grateful to have the opportunity, once again, to offer our assistance to the Red Cross so that a sufficient blood supply could be maintained for weeks to come. The swift and immediate response to this ‘call to action’ by our community clearly demonstrates the generosity that we have for one another. Yesterday was a symbol of that goodwill thanks to everyone who showed up to support the Red Cross’ transformational work.”
As a part of the Eagles’ $1 million contribution last month, $250,000 went to the American Red Cross of Southeastern PA Region.
