Jordan Matthews has been dropping balls at an alarming rate this season and those woes continued Sunday night.
After the loss to the Panthers, Matthews called the drops “embarrassing” (see story), but said he was confident he would figure it out.
According to a report from the Philadelphia Daily News, Matthews had been dealing with a hand ligament injury.
On Monday, when asked if Matthews’ hand was hurt, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly responded with a simple “no.”
“I don’t know anyone who catches more balls during the week than him,” Kelly said. “He’s here at 7 a.m. on the JUGS machine. Sometimes, I think he just overthinks it. He needs to take a deep breath and go play because he’s got outstanding hands and has been a very clutch receiver for us.”
Kelly said he expects left tackle Jason Peters to be ready to practice next Tuesday when the team begins its preparations for the Dallas game on Nov. 8. Peters left Sunday’s game in the first quarter on a cart with back spasms.
“We’ll monitor him this week,” Kelly said. “I think some of those guys will stay here, the guys that need to get treatment will all stay here with [head trainer] Chris [Peduzzi] and get treatment but they said that, from what I understand, he should be good to go for next Tuesday.”
After missing two consecutive games, inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks (hamstring) returned in the Carolina game and played 52 snaps.
So, how did he look?
“Mychal was OK, I think a little rusty, just because of the lack of reps, in terms of seeing things, keying it, diagnosing,” Kelly said. “Once he recognizes it, can take off, can go. Made some plays, had a sack, all the things we expect from Mychal. We just need to get him back into the flow, more practice time and more reps so that when he gets out there, he’s bang, bang, bang.”
