The Eagles added depth in the secondary and at receiver Tuesday, signing wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu and defensive back E.J. Biggers to one-year contracts.
Both deals are basic one-year contracts with little or no bonus money, and Biggers and Ajirotutu will both have to play their way onto the 53-man roster during the preseason.
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Ajirotutu has played in 57 games in five NFL seasons, with 24 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also considered a tremendous special teams player. He led the Chargers in special teams tackles in 2013 and 2014 and was named the Chargers’ Special Teams Player of the Year last season.
Ajirotutu, 27, spent his rookie season with the Chargers before joining the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He rejoined the Chargers midway through the 2012 season.
At Fresno State, Ajirotutu was a second-team All-Western Athletic Conference pick as a senior, when he caught 49 passes for 677 yards and seven touchdowns. He finished his college career with 129 catches for 1,997 yards and 12 TDs.
His name is pronounced Shay-EE Ah-JEER-uh-too-too.
Biggers, 6-foot, 180 pounds, was originally a seventh-round pick of the Buccaneers in 2009. He spent three years in Tampa, starting 24 games, and was with the Redskins the last two years, starting seven more games.
Biggers, 27, has four career interceptions, 185 tackles and 34 career pass deflections.
Biggers starred at Western Michigan, where he started 40 of the 46 games from 2005 through 2008. He finished his career with seven interceptions, including four as a sophomore.
Since the start of free agency, the Eagles have added receivers Miles Austin and Ajirotutu, defensive backs Byron Maxwell, Walter Thurmond and Biggers, running back DeMarco Murray and Ryan Mathews; re-signed Brandon Graham, Mark Sanchez and DeMeco Ryans; and acquired Kiko Alonso and Sam Bradford via trade.
